MSI X48C Platinum

$250.00 Released January, 2008

Product Shot 1 The Pros:CMOS works well with the BIOS to do error-checking and resolve issues on its own. Super fast communication between all the components. Allows both DDR2 and DDR3, so you can use whatever you have laying around.

The Cons:Some quality control issues, boards sometimes ship that won't post and frequently need a few reboots to get working in the first place. Instructions are sparse and don't tell you much.

The MSI X48C Platinum is a high-end motherboard based on the Intel X48 chipset. MSI has two X48 motherboards, this and the MSI X48 Platinum. The boards are nearly the exact same, however if the X48C uses ATI CrossFireX dual video cards, all the PCIe x16 ports are used up because it only has two, rather than four like the X48 Platinum.

Product Shot 2 The X48C also has a decreased number of PCIe ports, has only one gigabit LAN port (not dual), and supports DDR2 or DDR3 RAM. It also features a Multi-phase PWM IC, which improves power usage, making this a "green" motherboard.
