The Asus Crosshair III Formula is based on the AMD 790FX/SB750 chipset, meaning numerous modern AMD processors can be used with this motherboard. As an enthusiast product, higher-end 140W and 45nm CPUs are supported, allowing users to maximize their system performance with Phenom II, Athlon II and Sempron 100 processors. 16 GB of DDR3 memory can be installed through 4 DIMM slots. Integrated video with HDMI output is provided by the ATI Radeon HD 3300. A variety of proprietary Asus software comes in the box, including a built-in Linux distribution called “Express Gate” as a way to quickly connect to the internet.
